The Calgary Stampeders quarterbacking carousel finally stopped spinning Monday and landed on lucky No. 19.
That’s right. As it stands today, sophomore Bo Levi Mitchell will make his second consecutive start Friday at home against Henry Burris and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
In the process, Mitchell, 23, continues to make his case for the Stampeders to protect him come December in the Ottawa expansion draft.
“You want to be playing,” says Mitchell, who appears to be growing in confidence with every passing day. You want to be the guy.
“Whether or not I am this week, we’ll see, but for me, it’s a dream come true. And it’s what you expect from yourself.
“You expect it when you put in all this work your whole life and all this time up here. So you make sure that you keep fighting for it.”
Kevin Glenn, 34, is fighting back from a knee injury suffered in the Labour Day Classic.
“I’m feeling all right,” Glenn said. “We’re still going day to day. I feel a lot better than I did this week, but I’ve got to be 100 per cent to go out there and play – especially with the type of defence we’re playing against.
“They do a lot of blitzing and everything, so you want to make sure as a quarterback that you’re able to maneuver in the pocket to give your team the best chance to win,”
As for Tate, he continues to recover, albeit slowly from inflammation in the right elbow.
As a sign of promise, unleashed a long bomb on scout team during practice Monday to Johnny Forzani.
“I really let one go today, and it’s a little sore right now,” Tate said. “So I’ll wake up tomorrow, see how it feels and go from there.
Short yardage: The Stamps have released WR Greg Carr.
